Notes is installed on Linux using either a deb package or rpm package. See Installing and upgrading Notes on Linux in the related links.

Additional considerations are as follows:

• You must be logged in as a root user or switch user to root before installing Notes. After Notes is installed, non-root users can open and use Notes.
• Shut down all applications before installing or upgrading to this release of Notes, including anti-virus software.
• When installing Notes from the product CD or DVD onto an RHEL 5 Linux client, mount the media drive using exec as a gconf mount option. You can then insert the Notes installation media and run the installer by typing ./setup.sh.
• You can install Notes in a multi-user environment. Single user install is not supported.
• If you have installed a Beta version, uninstall it before installing the release version.
• If you are upgrading from a pre-Notes 8.5 release, uninstall Notes first using the uninstall utility provided with that release.
• Shared network installation is not supported for Notes standard configuration.
• Installation and use of Notes on a USB drive is not supported for Notes standard configuration.
• Notes roaming user does not support switching user ID.
• The install destination path cannot contain any of the following characters:

  \ ; : % # < > , " ! | ?

• Only one instance of Notes should be installed on a client workstation at any given time.
• If installation does not complete successfully, uninstall Notes and reinstall. If uninstall is not successful, see Cleaning a previous or partial Notes installation from your client in the related links.
• Consider using the autostart capability described in Reducing Notes startup time for auto-start on Linux in the related links.
